University of Cincinnati Online SLP Program Overview

If you’re interested in an online master’s in speech pathology at University of Cincinnati you may want to learn more about the Communication Sciences and Disorders online program offered in partnership with the University of Akron.

The University of Cincinnati’s online SLP master’s program begins in January every year. Upon acceptance, you’ll be admitted to either the University of Cincinnati or the University of Akron. Once you’re enrolled in the program, you’ll be a part-time online student for eight semesters. Currently, the online program requires that students live within two to three hours of the university so it can support clinical supervision.

The curriculum includes courses like Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology; Autism and other Developmental Disabilities; Advanced Neurological Basis of Communication Disorders; Speech Sound Disorders; Dysphagia; and Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Upon program completion, you’ll be eligible for speech language pathology certification and licensure to become an SLP in Ohio. Upon graduation, certification and licensure, you can apply to work in speech and hearing clinics, the armed services, private practice, governmental health agencies and hospitals. The University of Cincinnati offers another master’s degree called the Communication Sciences & Disorders Testing and Training International (TTI) online program. This is a full-time program open to students who are part of the TTI program and live in New Jersey, New York or Jerusalem, Israel. 

University of Cincinnati Speech Pathology Admissions Requirements

The admissions requirements for an online master’s in speech pathology at University of Cincinnati include:

  • Bachelor’s degree and transcripts: Students must have a bachelor’s degree and submit their transcripts to the Communication Sciences and Disorders department before enrolling in the program. 
  • Prerequisite courses: If your bachelor’s degree doesn’t have a communication disorder or speech-language focus, you must complete prerequisite courses.
  • GRE score: You must complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and send scores from within the last five years. 
  • GPA: Students need to have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better to be considered for the online master’s in speech pathology at University of Cincinnati.
  • English proficiency: If your first language is not English, you must earn a minimum score of 100 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based Test (iBT).

In its FAQ, the school notes that it takes many factors into consideration when reviewing applications for the online master’s in speech pathology at University of Cincinnati: “we also consider GRE scores, employment history and fields, and grades in prerequisite courses.” Strong academic performance in prerequisite coursework is recommended, but it doesn’t guarantee admission.

University of Cincinnati is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Its master’s in speech-language pathology programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
