University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Online SLP Program Overview

The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire (UWEC) has developed a three-year, part-time online program with the same curriculum as their residential program and taught by the same faculty. A competitive cohort experience, the online master’s in speech language pathology at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is a flexible yet intensive program. While all courses are taught online, it does require a short on-campus residency each summer in addition to your clinic work in your home community.

Through coursework and professional experience, you will gain the skills in speech, hearing, and language development and behavior necessary for a career as an SLP. In addition, you will learn how to evaluate and diagnose various communication and speech disorders (CSD).

A critical component of the program is the clinical experience offered through UWEC Center for Communication Disorders and over 90 off-campus sites. The online master’s in speech pathology at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire enables you to work with real clients as you train to become a speech pathologist.

The curriculum for UWEC’s online master’s in speech pathology includes classes such as:

  • Research Procedures in CSD 
  • Counseling in Communication Disorders

  • Pediatric Dysphagia

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Speech Pathology Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission to the online master’s in speech pathology at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, students must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA, and a minimum 3.25 in any CSD coursework.

Additionally, a minimum of 30 semester credits in communication and speech coursework, or a bachelor’s degree in CSD, is required. These credits must include college-level courses in each of the following areas:

  • Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing
  • Speech Science
  • Normal Communication/Language Development
  • Phonetics
  • Audiology

Of the 30 prerequisite credits, applicants must have at least three of these six courses, or equivalent ones:

  • Phonological/Articulation Disorders
  • Child Language Disorders
  • Voice and Resonance Disorders
  • Aural Rehabilitation
  • Clinical Methods/Procedures (with 25 hours of guided observation)
  • Neuroscience for Speech-Language Pathologists

Sign language coursework is also mandatory for the UWEC graduate program.

All prospective students are required to submit the following:

  • Official transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal essay
  • GRE scores
  • Criminal background check

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Accreditation

The Council on Academic Accreditation accredits the Master of Science program in speech-language pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) approved institution.
