Fort Hays State University publishes student outcome data, including Praxis pass rates and program completion rates that meet (and exceed) CAA benchmarks. Graduate students complete on-campus clinical experiences through the Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic and also train in schools and healthcare facilities in western Kansas through additional clinical education opportunities and externships. The program encourages students to join the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), which offers numerous community and professional outreach opportunities.

Kansas State University in Manhattan offers a comprehensive CAA-accredited SLP master’s degree with a full-time, on-campus (residential) program with entry in either the summer/fall sequence or the spring sequence. The program is designed to prepare students to earn the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Students complete four semesters of supervised practicum at the K-State Speech and Hearing Center, which is the program’s primary site for initial clinical training and community clinical services. Then students complete two 12-week externships, one focused on children and one focused on adults. 

The University of Kansas offers a CAA-accredited campus-based master’s degree in speech language pathology that involves coursework at both the KU Lawrence campus and the KU Medical Center campus. Clinical experience is available at several clinics, including the Hartley Family Center for Childhood Hearing and the Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Students with undergraduate degrees in other fields may need to complete undergraduate prerequisite coursework. Part-time enrollment is listed as an option, but the program is typically completed full-time.

At Wichita State University, the CAA-accredited master’s in speech language pathology prepares students to prepares graduates for SLP practice across diverse educational and medical settings, including evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. Students participate in clinical practicum working in the WSU Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic before completing at least two off-campus practicum experiences in medical and educational settings. Sufficient clinical hours will satisfy the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP). Prerequisites include coursework in areas such as applied phonetics and auditory development/disorders, plus additional CSD prerequisites (e.g., acoustic/perceptual phonetics; anatomy & physiology of speech/auditory systems; aural rehabilitation; early language development; neuroscience of CSD; and communication in special populations).
