Find the Best Arizona Speech Pathology Program for You

With several Arizona speech therapy programs to choose from, consider comparing programs to find one that aligns with your career goals. If you’re interested in getting Arizona SLP licensure or speech pathologist licensure in another state, it may be beneficial to look at licensure requirements before deciding on and applying to a speech pathology school.

Most states require an SLP master’s degree to practice, and it is common to hold one from an accredited speech-language pathology program. To get a speech pathology degree that may help you get a job in the field, it might be beneficial to make sure it’s from a school that meets the SLP licensing requirements for the state you want to work in.

Another common requirement for becoming a licensed speech pathologist is completing a specified number of clinical hours under the supervision of a licensed SLP. You may also be interested in obtaining a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). A supervised clinical practicum is a common requirement, and if you plan to pursue ASHA certification (CCC-SLP), ASHA requires a minimum of 400 hours of supervised clinical experience. Arizona licensure also requires a supervised clinical practicum as part of the graduate preparation for practice.

In Arizona, you’ll want to choose a graduate program that is CAA-accredited or CAA-candidate (pre-accredited) and aligns with the licensure requirements for the state where you plan to practice. Graduating from an Arizona program that meets Arizona’s standards, including a master’s degree and supervised clinical practicum, can satisfy the state’s education component for licensure, but you’ll still need to complete the other Arizona requirements (such as the national exam and supervised post-graduate experience or an approved certification pathway).” After doing your research, you should have a better idea of whether a speech pathology master’s degree is right for you.

On-Campus and Online Speech Pathology Programs in Arizona

Arizona’s in-state master’s programs that prepare students for SLP practice are primarily residential, in-person programs and are not offered entirely online. Some programs may offer select coursework in online or hybrid formats, but students should still expect required on-campus learning and in-person clinical training through university clinics and approved community placements.
