Find the Best Connecticut Speech Pathology Program for You

You have three speech pathology/speech therapy programs in Connecticut from which to choose. Many factors play a role in which program is best for you.

When choosing the right SLP program in Connecticut, keep in mind:

  • Cost. Your career and personal goals should help you determine whether attending a speech pathology master’s program in Connecticut is right for you.
  • Admissions requirements. Take a look at what you need to apply to a speech-language pathology program, like letters of recommendation, a minimum GPA and prerequisite classwork.
  • Curriculum. If a particular area of speech pathology interests you, ensure that a program includes that topic in its curriculum.
  • Program length. Can you attend a speech pathology program full time or do you require a part-time schedule? Online speech pathology master’s programs may offer accelerated or flexible program lengths.
  • State licensure requirements. Like many professions, each state has its particular requirements for registering or licensing speech language pathologists. Connecticut SLP license requirements include a master’s degree in speech pathology from an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) accredited program.
  • Additional licensing requirements for SLPs in Connecticut include:
    • Completion of 36 weeks minimum and 1,080 full-time hours in employment in a related professional field or 48 weeks and 1,440 part-time employment hours under the supervision of a speech pathologist, certified or licensed.
    • Passing an NTE Specialty Area Test.

Even by factoring in these considerations, only you can decide if an SLP program in Connecticut is right for you. The information regarding state licensure requirements was collected from ASHA’s website in November 2021. Please be advised that laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time, so always check with your state for the most up-to-date information.
