East Carolina University Online SLP Program Overview

As an ECU student, your experience will include a combination of interactive online classwork, course work that can be completed on your schedule, and real-world clinical training.

When you graduate, you will be prepared to obtain licensure and work as an SLP in various settings. Through the program, you will develop the collaborative leadership and problem-solving skills required to address problems of communication and swallowing experienced by children and adults.

The online master’s in speech pathology at East Carolina University offers two tracks, a speech-language pathology track and a non-clinical track. The non-clinical track requires a thesis for the research training component and does not train students for clinical speech-language pathology.

This program provides:

  • Live, online classes with 10-12 students
  • Virtual classrooms for collaboration with professors and classmates
  • In-person clinical experiences at sites in your community
  • Preparation for licensure in North Carolina

As an online master’s in speech pathology at East Carolina University student, your training will include an intensive clinical component of 400 direct client contact hours in a variety of clinical settings. This field experience provides real-world interaction with children and adults who face disorders in both group and individual settings. These internships will be arranged in your geographic location. Also, some courses may require projects or assignments to be completed in your community. A thesis option is available for the SLP emphasis area and is required for the communication sciences and disorders emphasis area.

Classes for the three-year program are delivered using an asynchronous model, which means students view lectures live or on-demand via their own computers. Course documents are shared online.

Students can be located anywhere in the country, and are taught by ECU faculty. Students from out of state are responsible for confirming licensure requirements for any state other than North Carolina.
